HISTORY

In 1960 the Spanish Federation of Canoeing is constituted; Francisco Lorente (canoeist from 1945 to 1949) was the Vice-president Executive of the Federation. He also took part actively in first contact of International Descent of Cares- Deva, because according with him "we want to increase the proof of Canoeing in Asturias and we went to inspect the Cares river and we had an excellent impression".

It began the 11 of August of the 68, when it made the first Descent with 5 nations and 93 boats. As of that moment it began to have much consistency because "it pleased much and the first years it was a complete success" says Lorente "it was successful because it was a lot of fans, it was very beautiful proof althouht it was a difficult proof.” and he adds “the most difficult it was the prey of Niserias and a rapids where some misalignments could be produced "

Framed within the International Week of the Canoeing of Asturias, the International Descent of the Cares River has been always one of the great appointments of the Canoeing and according to Lorente: “we can conceit of the good organization of the Canoeing in Asturias from 1932 to 1982. If Asturias made 100 competitions the others regions did not arrive at the 30 percent in activities. It was more than 30 Championships of Spain , organized and celebrated in Asturias ".

In the first edition, in 1968 the International Descent of the Cares was an authentic discovery for the federal members, headed by the President Eduardo Cuervo Perez, great enthusiastic and entertainer of this and other proof in Asturias .

From there and during many years, the International Descent of the Cares has been one of the most attractive proofs of Asturian canoeing and one of the main events in Asturias because of it closed the International Week of the Canoeing of Asturias. Nevertheless, in the last 10 years, the descent had a decrease line due to the lack of institutional and private support but from 2005, year in which PubliSELECTA takes the organization of this event, becomes to heighten the importance that had the proof in its greater apogee, counting on the participation of the best canoeist at National and the International level and with an ample mass media plan.
